TUYO
NATURAL DYES/ COTTON / WEAVING / EMBROIDERY
TUYO is a Foundation established in 2021 (Amsterdam,
the Netherlands) by a team of artists and artisans who aim to rescue and
promote ancestral textile techniques while supporting local communities.
In 2017, in Mexico City, two women from opposite sides of the globe met by chance at a natural dye workshop. Becoming friends, they started a collaborative journey to maintain and preserve the weaving techniques of the Amuzgo people. Back in Xochistlahuaca (Amuzgo region), they began to restore endangered textile local practices together with a small group of women willing to preserve their cultural heritage. Processes such as cotton growing, picking, spinning and natural dyeing techniques, were soon brought back to these women’s daily life.
TUYO plans to develop and implement programs that offer education and employment opportunities to this community, while re-establishing environmental responsible practices.
